For all levels
with a focus on sculptural form and surface design.
In this eight-week workshop the instructor ceramic artist Sophie Haulman will begin by guiding students through exercises in four different hand-building techniques — pinching, coiling, slab-building and carving, as well as strategies for glazing and/or finishing, before inviting students to pursue projects of their own.
Tutorials are supported by brief lectures on issues on contemporary ceramic art. The duration of the class is 2 hours.
Students receive weekly packets of readings and artist examples as an invitation to consider the broader value and possible applications of the techniques.
